Our phones went berserk (think Amber Alert alarms) at midnight alerting us to a tornado warning in our area. Disoriented I grabbed my phone to make it stop and rolled back over. Then my brain woke up enough to realize there were tornado sirens blaring as well.
“It’s a tornado. We need to go downstairs,” I told Brett.
“Are you getting the kids?” He mumbled.
“Yeah, I’ll get them.”
I woke our two young adult kids who are living at home this summer, and we all huddled in the downstairs hallway (we don’t have a basement) until 12:30 a.m. when the tornado warning was lifted We crawled back into our beds and tried to fall asleep to the sound of grumbling thunder and sirens still wailing.
In the morning the sun was shining. The birds were chirping. We didn’t have any branches down in our yard. There weren’t that many puddles in our neighborhood or on the trails. It was as if there had been an evening shower, not an imminent storm.
God reminded me:
There will always be storms in life.
But, He is always with us in the storms.
All storms come to an end. They always do.
And afterwards? There will be sunny new mornings filled with promise and joy.
I don’t know what you’re facing today. What feels stormy or loud or disorienting. What wakes you up at night or shakes your home or grumbles in your mind. But I do know Jesus is with you. And I do know He promises goodness and love for you (Psalm 23:4).
Even in the midst of the storms we won’t be overwhelmed or overtaken. God’s love is so great! His compassion never ends. The goodness He has for us? It’s new every morning. He is oh so very faithful!
Praying you through any storm you’re experiencing. That you feel Jesus’ great love for you as you journey through, that you call out to Him for help, that your storm ends soon, and that your heart is prepared to receive the great joy and new mercies Jesus has for you in the morning. Amen.
