One of my sons writes, plays, and leads worship music and events. My mom tutors elementary school students in reading at the school where she taught before she retired. They are both so beautifully using the gifts and talents God gave them to help restore the world to its original Eden-like state. The Lord is so delighted by both of them being the people He created them to be.
And here’s the thing. My mom can’t write songs or play the synthesizer. My son isn’t suited for sitting with squirming ten-year-olds and teaching them to read. But neither of them have to. Because they weren’t created to.
Same for you and me. God created you to do this and me to do that, put me here and you there, introduced you to those people and me to these folks. Yet….we spend so much time comparing ourselves to others. Let’s stop. Let’s instead live in the fullness of who God created each of us uniquely to be.
Maybe God created you to crack jokes or crack codes or make the most gorgeous charcuterie boards with the tastiest crackers. Maybe God designed you to lead the team or lead the orchestra or lead the way on hikes through the woods. Perhaps you were designed by the Creator of the Universe to be a peaceful presence among your friends or fight for that specific cause or be the person everyone feels comfortable sharing their problems with. Maybe you love to dance or write poetry. Amazing! Be you. Be the person God created you to be. And enjoy it so much that you radiate His love and light. Savor who God made you to be so completely that you have no time to compare yourself to her or him or all of those people over there.
